Manufacturing Capabilities

Tape ProcessingSaint-Gobain's Polymer Product's in-house manufacturing capabilities range from compounding or producing Rulon® and Meldin® materials, to auto molding, injection molding, and direct forming of these and many other high performance plastics (PTFE, polyimide, PPS, PEEK, PPA, etc.).

Piston rings and sealing rings made in Meldin® 1000 series, 3100 series, 5000 series, and 7000 series materials offer excellent chemical compatibility and wear life compared to traditional cast iron solutions.  Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics can produce various joint detail design types in these Meldin® material grades.

The Meldin® materials’ excellent flexural, wear, frictional, and chemical properties make them ideal piston rings or sealing ring candidates for demanding applications in such equipment as compressors, vehicle transmissions and axles, hydraulic actuators, and pneumatic power tools, to name a few.

Meldin® gear components are well suited for motorsport and vehicle applications, industrial pumps, and more.  The ability to injection mold the Meldin® thermoplastic grades enables us to produce an economical gear part, with minimal post machining.  Gear components include spur gears and gerotor element sets, both of which lend themselves to various pump applications.

The Meldin® materials’ good rigidity and high flexural modulus properties, as well as a unique combination of wear resistance and ability to allow foreign particles to embed into the Meldin, make them ideal materials for gears or gerotors.

Choose from the following

Automatic Molding Process

Precision multi-cavity dies and tools are used in our custom-designed presses to form finished parts.

Bonding and Etching Process

Polymer tape is bonded to various surfaces using heat and pressure and specially formulated adhesives.

Compounding Process

The precise blending of base resins and fillers in order to achieve repeatable and high-quality compounds for later mold processing.

Direct Forming Process

Precision dies and tools are used in our custom-designed presses to form complex finished parts and blank shapes.

Injection Molded Gears and Gerotors

Meldin® gears and gerotors provide high strength for torque transmission while contributing very low friction and low wear for improved efficiency and long life.

Piston Rings

Solid and split piston rings, featuring a full complement of joint configurations manufactured to your custom specifications.

Tape Processing

This process involves the skiving and slitting of molded billets into sheets of various thicknesses.

Automatic Screw Machining Process

Basic shapes of material stock are molded into large tubes for later processing.

CNC Machining Process

Rod, tubing, and other specialty profiles are extruded into continuous lengths in specially modified ram extruders.

Continuous Ram Extrusion Process

Rod, tubing, and other specialty profiles are extruded into continuous lengths in specially modified ram extruders.

Injection Molding Process

Components include bearings, scroll tip seals, piston rings, copier machine picker fingers, and valve components

Large Billet Molding Process

Basic shapes of material stock are molded into large tubes for later processing.

Stamping Process

A section of skived tape is blanked into finished parts. Saint Gobain engineers can design tooling in this automated process to cold-form shapes, such as u-cups and formed lip seals.
